Anyone around? I've struggled to the end of this - and very tough it is too - and have all the elements except the depiction of the flow chart in the grid. This is absolutely not my field and I don't know how much specialist knowledge is required.
I'm not sure which seven cells need barring and how.
Some of the clues are impossible. So as not to give too much away: Is the last letter of 22 the same as its third - correction? Is the last letter of 17 the same as the first of 18? Is the second of 21 the same as the fifth of 35?
I've highlighted 20 letters for the flow chart, but can't see what it is or how to delineate - bars probably

Hi aspria, without wishing to spoil the endgame for anyone else I can help if you want to email me. Admin doesn't like email details to be given but if you use the forum search function to go to Listener 4638 post # 20 you'll find it there.
Yes re 22a & 17a/18a and if you mean the 4th of 35 then again yes.

I too have 20 cells highlighted. They fall into 7 distinct areas, and the cells linking them number ... 7. Are these the special cells? (Even if they are I'm no further forward however.)

Yes, there are 20 cells to highlight - the 7 cells each have bars on either side (top and bottom in one instance) and they represent structures - as parts of an overall plan.
This idea has been used before (I think it was a Listener crossword). The description underneath the grid is a name, one word 10 letters.

... a place name, to be more precise.

Regarding the barred cell lowest down in the grid there
appears to be two cells suitable one in the 8th row with an I
and one directly beneath it in the 9th row with a P.

I think that part of the plan indicates a curve (as seen on the original) so I ignored the 'i'.

Very helpful replies - thanks to all. Nice to know there are people out there. I have it now, except not entirely sure about last (lowest) cell to be barred. Would I be right in assuming its the same as the third letter in Iac with bars l and r?
Wonderful performance from the setter. Many thanks. You ought to know how much your efforts are appreciated, even if a lot of people don't mention it. In this day and age it's quite special. I can't imagine what an intricate business it must be to concoct a thing like that. Not only that, but I've learnt something too!

You have what I have for the lowest one - and yes, I also think Ifor's puzzle is very good (but aren't they always?).
I particularly like the way he's married a theme I dislike (a lot) with something altogether more thought provoking... which he then undermines.

Krauton, I've gone for a pee. I've spent too long looking for my blue highlighter.
