Looks like plantation, plan and station, but I can't see where in the clue we're told to drop the first letter of 'station', so I might be wrong.

Scuttles? But I thought a scuttle was a metal container not a basket.

"after opening"=take the letters after the first one.

1st def of scuttle in Chambers is "shallow basket"

50d African create just born, it's properly announced (3).

Is the second word really "create"
