Completed this lovely puzzle, but unable to completely parse 12 and 24 across. Nudges would be very welcome.

12: First letter missing from wordplay. Kip as in Laotian currency + nut = printer's measure

24: Abbrev for bachelor of surgery around reverse of MI(l) (L extra)

And many thanks quisling for 24. I'd searched and searched for a meaning of LST as an abbreviation.

Ah well, as I said a lovely puzzle.

Regarding the endgame of this puzzle.
We are to highlight 2 rows. I have one of
these rows which goes with the shaded row
at the bottom of the grid to form the fifth line
of the poem. Presumably there is one row
which cryptically represents the third and fourth
lines of the poem. Does anybody have any hints
which row it is.

Krauton, look for six letters jumbled inside an abbreviation and a synonym, representing the last two words of the fourth line of the poem
