Definitely the hardest of the year so far... and a very impressive construction.

Have cold-solved 21 clues and made a start on the NW quadrant. It starts off OK but then turns into a dog' dinner. Tempted to throw in the towel.

What a workout - just pleased to get it done!

Evening, all. Am finding this tough going, although making steady progress.

I am however a little confused that the preamble suggests a symmetrical grid, yet by my reckoning the Down clues start at 'Leave mark...', and appear not to exhibit any symmetricality.

Is this because of thematic treatment ?

I'm not looking for an answer to a clue, so hope that this Q is in keeping with the objective and spirit of this thread. Thank you!

I reckon this is the hardest Listener I've ever done, having spent most of the weekend on it. There does seem to me to be a couple of 5 letter words which could be added though. Anyone else find the last step a bit ambiguous?
