I found this one quite difficult. I finished it, so don't need answers, but have some parsing queries. 1a Open fabric marker kept in series for amateur handicraft. (12)
2d A very long day in tropical parts (5).
4d Mark, one seen on note becoming due. (8)
18d Old pavillions? Matches will include one. (8) Thanks.

1a - The open fabric is the first five letters and the marker is the sort that might indicate the hours or minutes on a watch.

2d - Hidden in the clue

4d - Check whose portrait is on a £50 note

18d - 'Matches' as in 'reproduces', check an obsolete meaning of 'pavilion' in Chambers

Thanks for that. I don't often miss a hidden word. Knew 4d must be something to do with Alan Turing but can't remember when I last saw a £50 note! Jonathan broke his own rule by having the answer in the clue definition I reckon, but I still don't get Matches. I like the pairing of 14 and 22ac.
