I don’t DO technology, I leave that to Ash, but I could see that the heading had acquired lots of code where the quotation marks would have appeared, a run of about 6 characters each for one quotation mark. I removed the lot and it then behaved itself.

Curiouser and curiouser. I've seen something similar on other sites (e.g. Amazon review) where quotes and the like turn into HTML tags after a while, so that "hallo" will become something like “hallo” (not sure if the foregoing will display correctly). Not sure why it happens though!

EXACTLY spot on, Loge, it did look something like that.

Jazzgirl is having trouble posting, I’ve recommended she exit the Forum and go back to her desktop (or whatever) and then try again. If us two can post, then logic says that Jazzgirl should be able to post.

It’s just so strange that the problem started after 8 posts, most peculiar.

The 100 letters rule was implemented by Ash several year ago, when the forum had a Korean spam invasion ! Spammers were putting very long texts in the thread titles.

I'm no tech wizard, but in addition to your suggestion Jazzgirl may want to clear all this site's cookies and history from her browser and perhaps try a different browser. You're right there's no logical reason she shouldn't post - if this site can put up with me, it certainly shouldn't be blocking her!

Thanks Jazzgirl. The problem was that the heading wasn’t 100 characters but the system suddenly thought it was because of the extra coding that popped in.

I remember the Korean spam, Ash had to ban loads of characters. It caused an enormous problem because it banned unexpected things. For instance, some dashes were banned but not all, it all depended on how the individual computers read the coding for the characters.

It solved the problem though, they never managed to return.
