After a month’s trial, the two Listener threads seem equally popular so I have decided that they will continue as they are for now but rename the Answers thread to
‘LISTENER 8888 – ANSWERS (only if requested individually)’.

I have been informed that there has been some sniping in the 'LISTENER 4574 ANSWERS ONLY' thread because Answers were given. I would remind you all of the preamble and notes in my original thread

“This thread is dedicated solely to ANSWERS, if you want an answer to any clue in the Listener, then please post your request in this thread.

Answers should only be given when requested for an individual clue. Please do not post lists of answers, they will be deleted.”

I will reiterate that the Answers thread is not an excuse for multiple Answers to be given, they should be given very sparingly and only in response to individual requests. If you do not want to see Answers, then keep away from the Answers thread, it’s as simple as that.

As regards the Theme - help with the theme shouldn't stray into just detailing what's needed. Other puzzles/threads work well with hints, large and small.

I’m not discussing the rights and wrongs of answers being given, the internet is awash with answers, the Crossword Solver site does what it says on the tin – it helps users solve crosswords.

AND no more sniping please about Answers being given in the Answers thread.

Thanks for the update, Norah. It's good to be reminded of the various points, to see what's involved for all of us. I was especially pleased with the reminder about information on themes - I felt one or two recent puzzles were in danger of having too much given away. The hints, nudges, that are given on other thematic puzzles have helped me over the years - being told exactly what to get, look for, would have spoiled things a bit!

Norah, you say “no more sniping please about Answers being given in the Answers thread”. I assume this is aimed at my post #139, and refers to Turast’s interpretation of my post as being sarcastic.

Please read Turast’s original post #140 again. He said: “They are at the apexes of 3 V shapes with one arm longer than the other. If you shade U to V, then V to A in one colour, then E to R, then R to S in another colour, then H to E via O in another colour, you'll get the "Impossible triangle" popularised by PENROSE (in the HOE shape), ESCHER (in the ERS shape) and REUTERSVARD (in the UVA shape)”

This is as clear a description of the Theme as it’s possible to give, minus an umlaut, and a step-by-step guide to the solution, including the names to be highlighted.

Please confirm whether this was an acceptable post or not. It seems in direct contradiction of your earlier comment, so I thought it should have been removed, much as a list of answers would be. If I am wrong please explain why.

Quisling, I am Admin for the Forum, I do not do crosswords and certainly don't pretend to understand the 'ins and outs' of an individual crossword, let alone the Listener.

I'll take your word for it that Turast's original post strayed too far over the line, Turast please note.

I did not understand the post so am unable to say whether it was acceptable or not, all I can do is take advice that is sent to me by email on such matters. Possibly it should have been removed but it's probably too late to bother now.

That's in the past, in the future could everyone please adhere to the rule explained in my earlier post about the Theme. Thank you.
