How is an alternative clue based on a different meaning of the word a hint?

Forgive my sloppy phrasing BIG Dave. The word required can also mean something that grows in the ground. Happy now?

My point was that an alternative clue which happens to have the same answer is NOT a hint. You might just as well give the answer. A hint is something which assists in the understanding of the clue. Pointing out that the equipment is used in a factory or for other industrial activity would have been a hint.
