all those letters are correct - by me! They are descriptions of something implied by 22ac

I have the answer for 19d but not sure how the "only when upper classes are missing " bit fits in?

Still a dozen short of the clued ones. Particularly stuck with the down ones at the top. Are the unclued ones proper names? Are the words in Chambers?

Clevertask - only one of the unclued ones is a proper name (22a) get that and the others should follow.

3d what did a king do? Put "it " inside this for defintion of fired again.
5d is an anagram
8d Ajax was ... Take off the first letter to give "smell"

Rosie - google the unclued ones you have got and this may lead you to get the others, all of which you are nearly there. Have you got 22a? That's the key.
