A most enjoyable puzzle by ProXimal who, I've learnt, is the EV editor, so it's only fitting that he/she should have set this landmark crossword.

I had to smile when "The Obvious One" appeared from the extra letters and then when the second element emerged following the cell replacements.

A first-rate puzzle all-round.

Big thanks to ProXimal 😊

I fully agree with you Brendan and hope you enjoyed it as much as I did Kenhiggs.

Also agreed. Very nicely done, proXimal! Had the gridfill done yesterday and the corrections flowed neatly with this morning’s cuppa. Now to work!

Well I really need help here.

I have the grid filled and have seen the 'obvious one' from the extra letters but I'm afraid I am bewilderd by the instructions about finding the second part of the theme.

Does it mean that all the non-words have to be altered ?
Don't know what he means about two lines of 11 cells . Lines, not rows or columns ?

Total brain fog .
Anyone able to give me a nudge?

Thanks

You need to replace two rows of letters, starting each time at the second cell in. You need to replace the existing letters with the number
of the puzzle written in words. All words in the final grid are real words.

All the mom-words become actual words. Look at the second and ninth rows and the puzzle number.

Thank you very much for your help.
Got it all sorted out now but definitely would not have without you both.
