I found this unsolved clue from an old (1996?) puzzle:

8 Down: Flier arriving in German parts (6)

I have : -A-D-R

I think it might be LANDER, but I’m not sure.
I’d appreciate any help with a solution and explanation.

A flier arriving could be a lander (one who lands) and Länder is term for the regions of Germany
