23 Across - "Actor, old one, in time was a theatrical success (9),

As is so often the case - I worked it out to be "TRAGEDIAN" but cannot see quite how it fits?

Obviously this is an old term for an actor. Possibly "t - rage" is the theatrical successs but can't tie it all in neatly.

No doubt it's glaringly obvious to others!

I won't bother you with my train of thought on these two, Apart from the fact I agree with the definitions and see hints of the clues in both - I can't follow his reasoning,

16a Object is AIM (reversed)
RAND = ready (money) in SA.

22a ice inside New York with T (insulT)

16 AIM backwards around RAND - "ready" (money) in SA

22 ICE - frostiness and close to insulT in NY (New York - city)
