23 Across - "Actor, old one, in time was a theatrical success (9),

As is so often the case - I worked it out to be "TRAGEDIAN" but cannot see quite how it fits?

Obviously this is an old term for an actor. Possibly "t - rage" is the theatrical successs but can't tie it all in neatly.

No doubt it's glaringly obvious to others!

As said in "Dirty Harry" - "I gots to know"!

16 Across - "Sitcom's returning object kept ready in South Africa" (7) "MIRANDA"

22 Across - "Frostiness close to insult in city's refinement" (6) "NICETY"
