Finding this a toughie thie week. Have a full grid but the end game is a bit tortuous.
Can anyone help with parsing of 1a 'World AIDS day returned....'? I have what I think must be the answer but can't parse. It feels like it is one of the 15 but I can't make it work.

I was hoping a few other souls were tackling this but it looks like just me having problems! I have identified the Lady and ground to a halt again although I have made some headway with the 5 letter entries.
Hints on the parsing of 19a 'Is traverse overcome.....' and/or 31d 'Courage once food...' would be welcome.

I have the answers/definitions sorted and can see how 31d could be constructed but it reads oddly and I can't confidently put it into one of the two categories.

19 - remove 'Is' + the first 3 letters of the first word.
31 - remove [a stir]ring.

I wasted a lot of time looking for words or a phrase in the grid but the way the quote is disposed makes a chance discovery highly unlikely.
I think you really have to know what you're looking for to have any chance of finding it.

Thanks drxx. That's those two sorted. I think I'll park this for a while as I'm now missing things I'd spotted before. I've stared too long at it and will return refreshed! Hopefully others may be tackling it by then, otherwise it looks like my personal thread!
