One of the first cryptic crosswords I finished many years ago was a Rufus crossword in the Guardian and it had a clue "The longest one syllable word might (8)" and I thought hold on, isn't it actually 9A since that's 1 letter longer? :)
Sometimes I look at a completed good crossword and this was a good crossword and speculate upon which answers the compiler wanted and put in the grid first . My guess here would be 18,25 and 28.
