What an absolutely delightful puzzle.

A beautiful combination and melding of classics in one genre with another of current significance.

Big thank you to Chalicea:-)

One man's meat...

PS I felt obliged to post this in the interests of balance - all recent puzzles seem to be getting garlanded with praise!

No problem Malone, as I've said before - we're a broad church on here and I think the Forum's all the better for it 👍

I agree entirely, Brendan - but the non-enjoyers seldom come on here to say so, being such polite souls! Everyone has different likes and expectations - and also feelings of disappointment at times.

Count me among the non-enjoyers for this one (but, mercifully, it was over in a flash).

Thanks for your comments. I have been away and not done last weeks EV yet. I am looking forward to this Chalicea one, which, from what you say, must be a very easy one. This will suit me, though not satisfactory for strong solvers like yourselves.

Brendan

Thanks. I will start it tomorrow

Yes you will find it to be easy, possibly one of the easiest ever. Very enjoyable for me though. Thanks Chalicea for the puzzle and the generous pre-amble.

Jigjag, thanks. I'm always pleased when people have enjoyed a puzzle - even if I haven't! As sure as eggs is eggs, I will like puzzles that other people find unimpressive. My patience has grown considerably....

Grunger, thanks. Hope you had a nice time wherever you were! I'm sure you've been crosswording long enough to know that we all have varying preferences.

PS I should add that the difficulty level of a puzzle is not my sole criterion for enjoyment, other aspects are equally important.

As a non-league journeyman in comparison to the Premier League solvers who contribute so generously to this forum I would say that for me the twin enjoyments are actually (nearly) finishing no matter what the perceived level of difficulty is and learning something new from the puzzles.

Yes I did it very quickly, for me, this morning, watching the Olympics. I am sure I was not the only solver to get the theme from the preamble before solving any clues. Unsure about a couple of the "Scottish" clues

I enjoyed it, after a lot of tough ones recently which I could not do. Thanks Chalicea.
