This was my last one in (LOI, I have learned here).
I thought of REPAIR but couldn't see the definition so didn't get as far as REP and AIR. Lazily cheating by looking up -E-A-R, I was surprised to discover that only REPAIR fits. I suppose it can mean 'shape'.
I got stuck on ROUNDHOUSE because I had R-U-D-A-S-, for which, cheating again, I found nothing fitted. Checking crossers I realised I had relied too much on the Hippopotamus song (Mud...mud) by Flanders and Swan, the inamorata adjusting her garter, so had the wrong gender for 'lover'. Of course it had to end in o for 'round'.
