7D is an obscure instrument (I had an advantage, as the son of a friend plays one). It's a hidden.
17D an anagram before the "setter"
24 write reversed, then an "air"; def. god
26 I took on trust the beauty treatment! def "rests"
Good morning all. Far too rarely I seem to click onto the setter’s wavelength and happily today was one of the ‘good’ days! Just one query though …… I correctly guessed 3D from the end of the clue and the crosses, but can’t for the life of me parse it. Can anyone put my mind at rest please? Thanks.
hi percy
it's a "subtractive anagram". take the (mixed up) letters of "umbrella" out of "simon russell beale" (a real person, an actor) and anagram the remainder
I found this pretty straightforward, a relief after yesterday’s struggle. FOI 1a, LOI 20d. Thanks to timb for the parsing of 27a, can’t believe I missed Aretha (who I love!) The PDM was horrifying for me, but I’m taking some consolation that brendan and geeker missed it too. COD 8d, just for the amusing and smooth surface. I like the JOW idea, but have nothing to offer on that front I’m afraid.
Well that was certainly a welcome relief after yesterday’s struggle with Paul. FOI was 1a and my COD has to be 27a. If anyone needs help with that one I’ll say a little prayer for you!
