Completed(I think) but struggling to understand wordplay for the following...

4D Prisoner,huge old fellow held in durance, cutting bar.
I think the answer is "detenu" - du comes from durance cutting bar(rance) - how does "eten" equate to huge old fellow?

9D Former king on top of shrine rising for salute.
Ans "greet" - does tee somehow mean shrine?(I like golf but..)

The word ETEN means a giant.
It is in Chambers naturally.
I am surprised you,of all people,didn't get this.

eten is an old word for agiamt

Chambers says that a tee can be the top - finial - of a dagoba, which is a Burmese shrine.

2nd one- a tee is a dagoba which is a dome shaped memorial shrine(Buddist).
