Tough, as usual. NE quadrant v troublesome. Any hint for 5d: Played with brass ring on mop head in need of replacement (8)? I'm starting with O.

1d: Raised hatch, mainly to view storms across loch (4). Is also mystifying. I have W?P? although pretty confident about the crosses.

I haven't got my copy any more but if I recall correctly, 5d is O + anagram MOP HEAD and 1 down is a reversal of a verb "to hatch" (think frogs) minus last letter.
