Sorry, I can answer my own question now: it isn't!

23a - I have the answer but, for the life of me, I cannot work out where the final letter comes from. I see a 3 letter language with O(hio) changed to E(nglish) but that's only 3 letters - I've reached the 'going round in circles' stage so if anyone can shed light on it:-)

Brendan, I think I worked on there being a five-letter word for language (in general), with the O changing - and one letter being abandoned/dropped.

Oh my! It seems that once I get an idea fixed in my head, as I did here with the 3 letter artificial language, I'm utterly incapable of shifting away from it - unbelievable 😢
