The clue is “the band that makes a miss into a hit?”

The answer is obviously “ wedding ring”

What I don’t get is the reference to “hit “ ?

"Wedding Ring' is the title of a couple of songs, one of which made it to number 6 in the charts (so 'a hit' perhaps?). That was a while ago, but maybe the puzzle is also an old one.

PS This could be nonsense, but it's all I can come up with.

I have renamed this thread Parsing Help Please, a separate general parsing thread has recently been discussed in the Listener thread so here it is.

In case there are multiple queries and to save confusion, I would suggest that you start any replies with the name of the person to whom you are responding.

Rog62, this is a general parsing thread for any odd parsing query you have, exactly as you posted above, there’s no need to name the source of the query.

If it’s a new query, just click on the heading then Add Reply at the bottom of the page.

If you want to post on a particular NAMED crossword, look to see if there is already a thread on the first page, if there is then add your query to that thread.

If there isn’t a thread, then you can start a new one headed with the name of the Crossword. Please don’t put clue numbers in the heading, put those in the message itself. That way, the thread can be used by other Forum Users for other queries.

I hope this helps, our Forum Users are’s very friendly helpful bunch so I’m pretty confident you will get answers to your queries.

I agree with Malone that "hit" could mean a pop song, but wouldn't a song called "Married Woman" or something similar fit the clue better? According to Press Reader, this clue appeared in the Derby Telegraph in February 2020, so perhaps we're looking for a song that was popular then. Pop is not my field of expertise!
