That was a demanding but at the same time extremely enjoyable, well crafted puzzle from Oxymoron. It is sad that he is no longer with us and that this was his last EV. He has stretched my brain to its limits over the years with his tough but always fairly clued offerings.

9d - Perverted rascal no longer acts sexually (7)

The clue looks like an anagram of "rascal" + an omitted letter, but I've gone through all of the options in Chambers and none seem to mean "no longer acts sexually" - there is one that looks like it possibly should, but the definition is "belonging to camp" - is that the right one, if so, why?

Brendan, the 'no longer' shows it's an old word ('obsolete' in Chambers). You're right about the anagram stuff.

OMG!! I was looking at the beginning of CASTRA(l) and thought that maybe it was a version of 'castrato' or similar" and so would no longer .........".

Once I got that idea in my head I was utterly incapable of shifting from it 😡😡😡

14a - I haven't solved this yet but the only word that fits with my letter pattern is the acronym of an African political party that begins with a Z, but that causes no words to fit in 1d and it doesn't make a word if I add an extra letter.

Cancel that, I've just found it.

In all thematic cases wordplay gives the answer minus the missing letter in order.
