This is a return to the old appreciation thread, where worthy specimens were praised. I seldom took part in those, it can take me days to finish a Listener.

Looks like a proper toughie from Sabre similar to his recent E grade in Magpie.

Progress slow going but good fun!

Same here CD, I've managed to get a few of the long acrosses and a handful of downs but, given the ways they are entered, it's not as much help as it usually is!

Yes, there are a LOT of obstacles to solving these clues! Not to mention those without clues.
I solved 6 and 9d, 32 and 33a pretty quickly but have been staring for an hour since then. Anyone spot any other ‘easy’ ones?

I've got both 8s, 12, 21 and 25 and I am normally hopeless with sabre clues. 12 and 25 in ptic are easy.

Hi Lumen, 12a and 10d are "relatively" straighforward:-)

Cheers both.
What’s a sabre clue?

Terrific puzzle. A proper Listener. Tough clueing, for sure, but fits together nicely, with steady progress, and an unambiguous finish. Thanks, Sabre

Lumen, Sabre's the setter - and I think his clues are often very tough.

Oh yes! Lack of capital led to confusion. Also not a name I recognise.
