I give the three clues below and their answers, taken from the follow on day's Times. I cannot fully parse them, neither can Times for the Times Web page and its contributors!

9ac: Valued systems regularly used in these times (8) Answer: assessed.

21ac: Coloured stone that's become white when removed from casing (4) Answer: opal

8dn: Twenty, on leaving Guinea acquiring horse? (5) Answer: equid.

Any help much appreciated.

It says “systems”.
