Clue: Newspaper feature on screen is hit in a big way (8)

Answer is walloped, which is hit in a big way and wall could be screen, but cannot parse the rest. Thanks in advance for help with a full parsing.

Curious, I had always thought that ‘opposite’ meant that it presented an alternative view to the editorial, rather than the position in which is was printed
