Thanks for the votes bbm, paulh and jono (& to paul and spike for the other clue).
Nice clips - as it happens we were in Great Smoky Mountains NP (in Tennessee) a few weeks ago and on one hike came across a bear cub on the side of the trail. Fortunately it took off down a hill, presumably to mama bear, but we backed off and had a loud conversation in case mama was on the other side of the trail. We're headed to Grand Tetons NP (Wyoming) in a few weeks, where carrying bear spray is strongly suggested. Hopefully there will be no opportunity to use it.
In 2017 we were in Glacier NP (Montana) on a long out & back hike, and on the way back eventually noticed that no one had passed us going out for quite some time. Eventually we came across a ranger who told us the trail was closed due to grizzly activity. Needless to say I had my bear spray unholstered for the rest of the walk. So, they are cute... at a distance.
I have another story about camping in the Sierras and having a bear come rumbling through our campsite, but I would imagine no one could... stand? tolerate? suffer? another one.
