I don't like to grumble about puzzles since the setters get meagre reward for giving us such great entertainment. However, I feel that the standard of the ST cryptic has slipped of late. Too many iffy clues to bang on about here. I help my aged mother-in-law with her Daily Mail cryptic, and I wonder if some of the current setters are on secondment from there?

Funny you should say that, Bobby. The ST puzzle is way better than it was in days of yore, and the two DMs are both fine setters with excellent track records elsewhere. But I do feel that some of the puzzles have been phoned in of late. I always thought that was just me!
