17a for anyone doing this crossword, this answer is 3 words. It usually says but didn’t and I was struggling trying to find a one word answer

I agree Ian - it`s a bit naughty not to give the number of words for the answer - I hope it was a mistake !

Hello Skeleton fans.
We can't parse 8D (ODE)?
The definition of POEM seems obvious.
Any thoughts would be most welcome

I think it might be:
character facing Doom - D
with Old English as equivalent to Anglo-Saxon. I would have put OE as a bit later than Anglo-Saxon, but Wiki seems happy enough.

Chambers agrees too - Old English - ...;the English language up to about 1100 or 1150 AD (formerly, and still popularly, called Anglo-Saxon).
