I assume the solution is ABBA.

I mention it because 'The Times' convention of not having a living person as a solution seemingly doesn't apply to a group.

Perhaps they’ve stretched the convention from “living” to “existing” i.e. not broken up...

Blimey. I can vaguely remember iambic pentameters from O level Latin, but not a clue what they are. Poetic scansion not my strong point, Alexander!!

20a I'm surprised by fellow doing spells in resistance. I have o-m-g- and think the answer is ohmage, but can't parse it?

oh + mage (the ohm being the SI unit of resistance)
