PS I buy the papery Times daily but like to get ahead on the Listener because I'm so very slow!

This was a gentle offering from Awinger, with a straightforward endgame - for once!

If Awinger is an anagram of ‘Wiganer’ as was suggested in the forum for Listener 4607 (where the theme was Wigan Athletics’ 2013 FA Cup Final win over Manchester City) then he or she must be enjoying today: another outing as Listener setter plus Wigan Athletic avoiding relegation from League One with a game to spare after a year in administration. Up the ‘Tics!
(In case you haven't guessed it, I'm a Wiganer too!)

Rare to see a Listener setter appear on this forum (I think some disapprove) and since you're here, Awinger, please accept my congratulations on a fun and well-designed puzzle. It had a neat endgame without grid staring and it's always satisfying when grid changes result in real words. Bravo!

I don't understand the second paragraph of your post, which I assume is footballese. Please don't make that the theme of your next, much looked forward to, puzzle!

Apologies again for dragging football stuff into a Listener thread but hard to overstate the trials Wigan have been through in the last 12 months with a new owner putting us into administration, getting relegated from half way up the Championshio as a result, all the players leaving, having to play the youth team, 50 different players in 7 months and bottom of league 1 for a long period this season. So to stay up with a game to spare is an incredible and extremely unlikely achievement.

Right, no more football.

Finally a quick note from me to say thanks to all the regular posters on here - helped me a lot when I was starting to solve listeners 6 or 7 years ago and still very helpful to see which aspects of puzzles people find hard / easy and enjoy / don't enjoy.

Really enjoyed your puzzle, awinger. Even this American knew enough about British politics to complete the endgame. I will just echo the plea for no football though, as I certainly don't know enough there.

No probs chaps. Very approachable puzzle - extra words far easier for me to spot than extra letters. Same place next week..
