I joined the clue writing challenges at the end of July last year so not been here long at all. I know others have been around much longer and I take that as an indication of what a good community this is. I’ve certainly been made to feel very welcome, and I’d like to think my clueing abilities have improved as a result of being here, though that might be wishful thinking!
Sorry Paul, it doesn’t look like the Zoom call will take off, but a commendable idea I thought!

Too bad that the times we live in make us need to be more cautious. Perhaps we can rethink the idea by adding in some security? Maybe an exchange of emails for those interested. Someone indicated that the admin, norah, will forward email addresses. For what it's worth, my email address is the same as my screen name here at cox dot net. I think that way of showing it should stymie the spam bots. Shoot me an email some time.

I started joining the challenges shortly after Jono it seems. They have been tremendous fun, and I don't think there is anything cliquish at all. I am sorry tango feels that way, and I know I voted for one of tango's clues in the most recent one he or she entered. I know I feel the odd one out occasionally, but probably because I'm American and most of you are British. Nonetheless, I share a science background with several of you, and maybe those less scientifically inclined feel at a loss with the science-tinged clues (or just annoyed.) Mattrom and I are dog lovers, and Buddy IS a dog apparently. Buddy of course is also my fellow spud boy (DEVO fan.) I have two cats in addition to the two dogs, and the biggest cause of my insanity, two teenage daughters. I don't know much about Paul. (PaulH I know loves bridge and chess.) All right, I've rambled on enough, but you get the idea.

If anyone wants to reboot the idea of a zoom meeting later, I could collect emails, and set up a password-protected meeting. Or we could let it drop.

Oh, by the way, when not going by mathprof, or other variations of my screen name, all of which I love, I am known as Doug. Feel free to refer to me by name, or by any of the mathprofrockstar derivatives. (See what I did there? Derivatives. Calculus. Math.) And a further by the way, the rockstar part came from when I was doing a show on my university's radio station.

Well unsurprisingly I’m keen to get things going. So the protected email route is the one I’ also considered if you’re happy being the MC Doug(!) I’m going to kick it off by sending you my email and WhatsApp details. The more cautious can send you their emails and you can send out the zoom invites. C’mon everyone, have some faith in humanity!

Well then, next weekend will be off the table as I will be out of town. The following Sunday is Mother's Day, so probably not best. Does May 16 work? That will give everyone time to weigh whether they want to join, and for me to collect the emails.

Well, I am certainly not an oldie on this site and certainly not a goldie, but I do enjoy it and would hate to have anything spoil it. I am sorry Paul that I am going with the majority in thinking that a Zoom is not a good idea. There is plenty of room for discussion (of clues and anything else) after the contest has been decided.
I do not consider this site cliquey and as far as judging is concerned I do appreciate that most of my efforts belong in the rubbish bin and that is fair!
