Hello nelson62. I assumed that the solution is the USA term for our operating theatre. Couldn't see any other explanation.

I have been wondering about the Broadway clue too.

Here are clue and apparent solution for the first time in this thread:

Broadway theatre? (9, 4)
OPERATING ROOM

As in comments above, I can see the 'theatre' definition, but what about 'Broadway'?

The nearest I have got is the 2015 police Operation Broadway targeting criminal companies operating from prestige addresses, particularly in London, known as boiler rooms.

I guessed that BROADWAY was indicating the USA terminology for the room in question.

......especially since Broadway is awash with theatres - quite neat actually.

POSTED IN DUPLICATE THREAD BY BELLAKEMP

Axe wielding man with hand round a neck
The answer is guitarist but gosh I can't work out why!
Any help gratefully received

REPLY BY BRENDAN

Hi Bella,

I think it's just a cryptic definition.

Slang for a guitar is "axe" and the "neck" is the fretboard so the guitarist, when playing or "wielding" his "axe" would have his hand around the "neck".

Thanks Brendan,
I was wandering along so many false trails in trying to work out this one. It didn't help that I have never heard of that slang term for a guitar. Well, on Shakespeare's birthday I have learnt something!
