21 Down - "No Geordie relative - that's a relief!" (4). The answer is obviously "PHEW" , but for heaven's sake why?

(ne)PHEW - a Geordie comes from the NE (supposedly, though Newcastle is actually quite a long way west of Leeds!)

I suppose it is west of Leeds if you go via North America and Russia but the A58/A1 is usually quicker

OK, I exaggerated - slightly west of Leeds (look at a map!)

Thanks for the reply - as always, when spelt out, it's so blinking obvious! As I've iterated so many times before "D'oh!".
