Pedantically this doesn't work
DIS is another word for hell
CUSSED is annoying, but by itself it is pronounced as two syllables, but only one in the solution.

Why is it necessary for the two pieces of a charade to have the same pronunciation when they are combined into the definition?

I suppose it isn't, but it still grates!

I'm sure I can find a better example, but from this week's Listener:

the w.p. is BLIN(d) + I but the answer is pronounced "BLEE-NEE" not "BLIN-EE"

Well worked out, OCTAGONAL, I don't think it's particular unusual though. Not a very good clue.
