I am having problems parsing the following 5 so explanations as to how you arrived at the answer would be appreciated...
A) Short day, still short, is getting shorter (8) ???N?L??
B) Big noise preceding setter's wicked spell (6) ??A?M?. I think it might be "whammy" but I cannot parse the "setter's/my" part of the clue.
C) Being heartless, get away with swindle (4) ??A? Think it might be scam but cannot parse the rest of the clue.
D) See round odd parts of Vienna in a calm manner (6) E?E?L?. Think it might be evenly as ven are 1st, 3rd & 5th of Vienna but cannot parse the letters ely.
E) Welshman's name, on looking back, had an unfamiliar ring to it (4)
?W?N. Is it Owen? If so, why?

A - Dwindles - D for Day + windles(s)

D - See = Bishopric = Ely. This is fairly common in crosswords.

B - the compiler is referring to himself/herself as the 'setter' so setter's = my.

Thank you alwayspuzzled and stevie gee. Any suggestions as to why "my" relates to setter's?. Still cannot parse "whammy".

Does anyone else feel that there is an error in the clue to 22 across?

"Right to hold back Latin dictionary with particular engraving".

The answer is NIELLOED (with particular engraving). The last half of the answer makes sense - L(Latin) + OED(dictionary) but the first half [right to hold back] should be LIEN backwards and not LEIN. Is this an error in the clueing?
