I'm saying IMPLY, but why lavish?

I would guess it is clueing "Ply" as in plying someone with goods (being very generous) etc. IM is alrready in the clue

Hmm. I guess so, but having an adjective clue for a verb just doesn't sit well with me.

Well, I didn't write the clue! But "to lavish" (bestow generously) is as much a verb as "to ply" is.

.. and maybe a wee "thank you"??

And I was not criticising you, but the person setting the crossword. I can normally agree to the multiple parts of a clue with this crossword but this one didn't sit well with me for some reason.
