What a brilliant puzzle! The construction is a work of art and the clues are absolutely superb - I don't think I can criticise any of them. My last solve was 42a, which when figured out shows how good these clues are, Hat's off to Serpent, may you quickly return.

Agreed. A very nice workout. All done but have to reverse engineer a few to be sure of the parsing and I have one remaining ? The last letter of the first unclued column. I assume it's the same as the letter immediately above it?

Thanks Malone. I guessed it must be although it looks a little odd.

That was an absolute joy. Yet again, far superior to The Listener this week. It all fell into place step by step, with no GWIT or ponderous end-game. Brilliant - thanks a heap, Serpent😃

Agreed, Bobby. I made a total mess of this week’s Listener (as my dim comments on the relevant threads show!) and that was down to me, I guess. But still, I prefer puzzles which are challenging with a clear endgame, rather than hours of WTF. This one fitted the bill admirably. Nice innovative idea for the message letters too. Bravo Serpent!
