A couple of parsing queries - it's a Paul McKenna so no surprises there - he often confounds me!

5 down) Somerset's channel blowing the lid on gullible - one looking up (4)

I have REEN, but can't make sense of "one looking up" in the wordplay.

8 down) Among Scots Mister Johnny Hallyday's the pinnacle of rock (6)

I have NEEDLE, and assume the French reference is to LE, but don't get the "among Scots Mister" bit.

Mister is a Scot’s word for need or necessity

One looking up is perhaps a ne’er, as in “neer-do-well”

Thanks, jono. Mister = need is new to me. BRB confirms. I must have encountered it previously, but memory now fading! But what is "among" doing in the clue? That's still a head-scratcher.

I had (g)reen and can't see what purpose "one looking up" serves.

cheers

I suspect that 'among' is used simply to indicate the Scottish meaning of 'mister', i.e. when Scots are talking.
