2d Sociable old lover leaving drink to grab Rolling Stone.
e???o???t . Second letter is probably x to give ex for old lover.
I'm guessing there is an anagram of stone in the answer but can't get there.

Looks like EXTROVERT. Ex + Rover (rolling stone) in TT (teetotal, leaving drink)

extrovert? (rover as the rolling stone?)
TT - doesn't drink.
To be pedantic, it should be extrAvert!

Why would it be extravert, please?
I would have put money on there being an anagram of stone!

outer/outside is extra - like extramural, for instance.
See here, for instance

And for those of us who are quite happy with the Extro in Extrovert...'extro,20th century, variant of Extra, contrasting with Intro.' This is language evolving rather than an error being perpetuated!

Thanks, ChrisE. I didn't want LoubyLoo to give too much weight to your view - balance is essential!

19 down: Last characters in exchange warn M15 about poison (7)

The answer is envenom which means poison and the e and w are the last characters in exchange warn, but I cannot parse it any further. Any help gratefully received. Roger

It looks like exchang(E) + war(N) + M ONE (I) V about, I.e. backwards. So you have to spell out MI5 as M ONE V
