Hmm. The grid fill wasn't as fearsome as it looked, thanks to some generous clues, and the first name isn't too hard to work out. But having spent twice as long on trying to find the second name as on the rest of the puzzle, I still haven't a clue what it is. The "hint" from the extra down clues isn't helping either.

I'll be interested to know if anyone else is having problems with this, or if I'm just being dim.

I spent almost as long on the second name as the rest of the puzzle, loge, but it’s there alright, and the hint is of some help, though I only understood how after the fact. The clueing and structure meant it was a pretty straightforward gridfill for a carte blanche, and the extra words mostly stood out

Got it now. How many solvers will work out the name from the hint rather than the other way round, I wonder? I really enjoyed the puzzle up to and including the first name, but I can't stand grid staring and the final step definitely took the shine of it.

Hint was useless [to me] but finally found a first name and was a bit gobsmacked to find the following letters were what I was after. Decent puzzle I thought and once the 9-letter word went in, the rest followed in fairly short order.

Enjoyable. Straight forward enough cluing helped and wiki stopped me having to do too much grid staring at the end.

Thanks Deuce

The grid stare for the second name took a disproportionate amount of time indeed. When I finally found it, I kicked myself that I didn’t look for it sooner. On the upside, I have learnt a lot about the apostles!

I enjoy a carte blanche, and this was no exception. Thanks Deuce.

Thank you Deuce.
Like other solvers, relatively quick gridfill and location of the first name. Also learned a lot about his followers. Interestingly one is probably a forbear of the lovely Greta. Got sidelined looking at the refugee in the Ecuadorean embassy!
But finally tracked down Number 2.

I thought this was going to be another "cold solve" slog, but it all came together rather nicely. It was a pain piecing together the two clues and the down clue means nothing to me, so I struggled to find the second name. A little light relief after last weeks monster.

I have completed the puzzle and found both names, but cannot understand either hint. I do not think it matters, but for the sake of completeness, it would be nice to know how they work.

The reference given in the first hint suggests a similarity and a relationship, 0pt0. If you need more it's probably better on the other thread. As I and others have said, the second hint is so vague as to be of no help at all.
