My early favorite was mattrom @12, but then buddy came up with #33. Clearly that earns my vote (although in complex variables we usually use z.)

Spurred on by jafo's comment there was a recount.
All the votes are in. It was actually jafo's vote that I missed - I assumed it was an explanatory post, mea culpa.

Another busy week with 39 clues from 18 setters.
Joint runners-up were rossim #5, mattrom #12 and jafo #19.

A clear winner with 5 votes is buddy at #2 with a super smooth subtractive anagram evoking espionage in the Middle East.

I escape from Riyadh, shaken but undaunted (5)

Your prize is a visit to a site which seems to support the preservation of the work of the greatest double act from the silver screen.

Congrats buddy - nice to pick the winner.
Thanks BBM2. Although I enjoyed silent comedies, for some reason, I never liked Laurel and Hardy. (Actually, come to think of it, I didn't like the other ones either, except, of course, Buster Keaton.)

Congratulations, Buddy. Thanks, Bbm2.

My thanks to Aristophanes for the vote, most grateful (not so grateful for the non-pleasant image brought about by your tighty-whities, though)!
Many thanks to Jono and Mattrom for the mentions. Always appreciated.
