Can anyone help with my last clue please?

48 across 'migratory songbirds'

I have s.a.l.n.s but can't believe it could be 'starlings' as they can hardly be described as 'songbirds'. Screech birds more like!

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

i have put starlings can, think any other bird that fits

They don't migrate either! But nothing else seems to fit.

I read in an online encyclopedia that "Some species of starling are migratory..." (although there appears to be some dispute about certain parts of that encyclopedia.

The same encyclopedia is less informative about the noises made by starlings.
