18d Parsing help requested.

"Did well sorting out what comes next, having time for son" (7).

The solution appears to be THRIVED, i.e. "did well", possibly derived from SHRIVED, replacing the S for son with T for time (?). I cannot fathom it out though, unless it's referring to sorting out the next life through confession and absolution! I suspect I'm looking far too deeply here - or am way off course - and wouldn't "sorting out" then give you shriving?

I have never (knowingly) come across that device in 50 years of solving....or maybe my memory fails!! Not sure if it's Ximenean though, any thoughts?
