I cannot work out the theme of the 15 special clues as well as the random words that don’t add anything to the clue.
Some helpful hints would be much appreciated

There is no theme to either the fifteen special clues/answers or the words which are not really needed except to make the clues read smoothly. The only thematic elements are those mentioned in the preamble.

Well done! I've reached the end of my patience with this one.

I've got slo? for 9a, I guess it's "special" but I really can't see a hat there.

Two films? Well "Mata Hari fits in but the other? "Ninotchka" clashes with 44a "Modena" which not only means scarlet but also parses.

I'm well beyond the elastic limits of my patience here so if you can spare a moment to let me know what you've got for 46a and 33d I'd be fawningly grateful.
