i found that but didn't see how it worked, ginge. i suppose it's just a reference to a cheese and pickle snadwich, but it's rather weak!

I realised that sponge only has 6 letters and the second word is 8.

Hi Jane, Victoria Sandwich as the answer - I was just adding it is a type of sponge cake.

Hi again chrise, I took "for VR" as part of the clue.

I think a Victoria Sandwich is two Victoria sponges stuck together with cream or jam.
