Begonia developed near the SE Alps - stuck on this (9,4 ) flower.
No 20 in Neville Mizen's puzzle.

Could answer to No.1 be another name for Sweet William? (4,2,6)

No1. I have seen this as Rose of Sharon but None So Pretty seems better.

'near the SE Alps' is an anagram of 'elephant's ears'

If elephant's ears is the answer, it should be Bergenia rather than Begonia!

From Chambers: any of various begonias or varieties of ornamental arum with heart-shaped leaves; applied also to other large-leaved plants such as bergenias and species of Colocasia

I have a horticultural background and have always used the proper Latin names.
I have found that common names vary immensely depending on which part of the country you live.
