I have just had a nosey at the times taken to complete today's Times Cryptic. Golfdocandy completed in 3:07 and thirteen other planetbrains in under 5 minutes; fifty four completed in under 10.

I have submitted Saturday and Sunday's Prize Cryptic Puzzles and each took me around 5 minutes just to type in the answers. What's going on?

BC - there are probably only about 5 people or so who can regularly do an easy times cryptic in under 5 minutes and are well known in that community.

And probably another 20 or so that can go sub-10.

The rest are just those that have either done it on paper (or looked at the answers) and submitted online as quickly as possible for whatever reason.

There is an excellent resource known as the Snitch at xwdsnitch.herokuapp.com which ranks each day’s puzzle for difficulty and shows the completion times for all the known ‘real’ users.

Thought I could smell a rat or twenty!
