StrangelyBrown, I don't think that's quite right - there's no substitution of 'w' for 'e'. The W is dropped and then an E, English is added at the end.

You're right of course Malone, my carelessness, you drop the w, add an e.
I mainly come on to this forum to look for assistance from the helpful posters and am not often in a position to return the favour - and look what happens when I try!

Thanks, StrangelyBrown. I was completely certain that you had the correct answer, but had just gone a little awry in explaining it! I did the same thing a week or so ago.

Can anyone help me parse 44A. "Vehicles carrying lean Spanish monarchists"?
I have the answer as "cartists", I can see vehicles but where's the lean?

Oh thanks.
I was wrong with "cartist". Misled by this definition :
"cartist: A supporter of the constitutional charter in Spain or Portugal".
I've never come across "Carlist" before. We live and learn.
