Very tough puzzle as usual, Stuck in the SE corner. Help with 18 down may get me going.

It means bonnie (obscure Scottish word)

Wordplay is Scottish word for little and a word for fat with the first of “friend” in the middle.

The grid shows H*D*E*I*E and I think it must be HIDDENITE which is a gemstone but I do not understand the clue.

Perhaps it's clearer as (ite)m showing the ["hidden" ite]
