Geeker, it was D.B.'s birthday today, so very appropriate.

Well spotted MPRS

It got me wondering if maybe there were a few other DB gems hidden it the crossword to mark his birthday, and when I saw 24a and the first part of 3d I thought - yes! But, alas - no 😢 If Pan was going to that he/she/non-binary could easily have altered 22a into ......😉

Unless they are there and I just haven't spotted them.

Dear oh dear, how can that be considered a Prize Crossword? My coffee was only half drunk when I'd finished. Very disappointing.

Pan has done a few weekday puzzles, but she (I think) started as a regular Quiptic compiler.

Not sure where the first 5 letters of 9a come from.

I wasted some time trying to parse a rather more distant parliament @13a!

Chris, 9a look up the first five letters as a word on its own. I was thinking the same til I did that.
I’m left wondering if that was intended as Monday’s Quiptic and they’ve printed it on the working day. Pan hasn’t done a prize before.

Morning all,
I too managed to finish it during breakfast today, was hoping for a theme, or a nina given the grid style but seems just to be a straightforward simple puzzle.
FOI was 14a, no idea why I started there, just caught my eye first. LOI was 13a, which I can't parse so might be wrong.
A few terms I didn't know, 1a, 16d, 18d and 25a but all getable from the wordplay.
Hard to pick a favourite when they are all fairly mediocre, maybe 22a.
Re the parsing of 1a, (male) could probably have been omitted, and I assumed it was the doctor doing the keeping, then the lady's back so the first 5 letters for attractive rather than the 5th letter being at the end.
Guess I have lots of time to work on the listener now. Or tidy the house after having the kids at home all week trying to work and homeschool simultaneously.

Well, that was a stroll. Only two hold-ups were 26a and 25a, which I hadn't heard of. With all the crossers in place, the wordplay wasn't too hard to get, and google confirmed the definitions.
